Nike Air Jordan Spizike - Infrared Hits Our Online Store

The back story of the Nike Air Jordan is about as rich a history as you can find where sneakers are involved. The Nike Air Jordan started out as the pro model of world famous basketball star Michael Jordan, known for his legacy with NBA team the Chicago Bulls. Since then, the Jordan had transformed into a whole line of sneakers that have the ability to make collectors all across the world run wild, and the new Nike Air Jordan Spizike is set to do the same.

The first Jordan hit the shelves in 1985, and every year since, Nike and the Jordan Brand have continued to release new versions of the Jordan, even after MJ's retirement from the NBA. Interestingly enough, Jordan actually retired from basketball on three separate occasions. The first in 1993 to pursue a career in baseball, in 1999 after leading the bulls to 3 additional championships and again in 2003 after 2 successful seasons with the Washington Wizards.

The Jordan 1 rose to publicity upon release as its red and black colourway violated NBA uniform rules. Jordan continued to wear his signature shoe and as a result, was fined $5,000 for every time he wore the sneakers during a game. The Spizike first hit shelves in 2006, designed using the best elements of the Jordan 3, 4, 5, 6, 9 and 20 and named after director Spike Lee, who had worked closely with Jordan on a number of projects over the years. The first release was exclusively available at stores across the US Interstate-95, as per Spike Lee's request. The Spizike hit the hype right away, being dubbed the 'retro Frankenstein' by sneakerheads due to it's make-up featuring elements of various Jordan models. The rest, is history.

For those that want to get deep, here's just what goes into the Spizike:
Air Jordan III - sole, midsole and elephant print
Air Jordan IV - 'wings' on the upper that hold lace loops
Air Jordan V - main silhouette, netted side-panel, 'MIKE' lace locks
Air Jordan VI - tongue
Air Jordan IX - heel tab
Air Jordan XX - graphics on inner lining

This particular colourway of the Spizike pays homage to the popular black/infrared colourway of the Air Jordan VI. The blue highlights however, hint at another Jordan VI, the 'sports blue' model. This Spizike brings together the greatest elements of Jordan history, in colour and construction, in one killer piece of footwear. We don't have many of these to spare, so act fast if you hope to get yours. Available in UK sizes 8-13 now.
